Victor Carrusso Residence

This home was constructed in 1913 for Victor Carusso, a merchant who supplied provisions for Villa’s revolutionary forces. The style of the Caruso home is Federal Revival Style. Victor Caruso was the first owner. The Caruso home is located in the Sunset subdivision of El Paso, Texas, block number 24, lot numbers 36-38 & W1/2 of 39. Its historic name is the “Caruso Home.” It was a product of the American Period, 1910-1950.The Victor Caruso home was designed by Trost & Trost. It has a magnificent view of Juárez. During the Mexican Revolution, Victor Caruso supplied Pancho Villa’s army. The Caruso home is located at the corner of W. Yandell and Corto Streets in El Paso. It is also known as the Halla Residence. Victor Caruso fled Mexico in 1911 because of the Revolution. Caruso resided at 718 N. Prospect from 1913 to 1916. The subsequent owner of the home was William Kraft, who also fled Mexico because of the Revolution. On December 22, 1981A resolution of the El Paso City Council placed 718 Prospect on the El Paso Historic Register; and, the Caruso home was listed as Local Historic Landmark by City of El Paso; and the Caruso home listed on National Register of Historic Places. Carusso was also the owner of the Fairview Apartments, at 800 N. Prospect.
