This is the original building where the first major novel of the Mexican Revolution, Los de abajo, was written by Mariano Azuela and published in serial form by the El Paso del Norte newspaper in 1916. The building was bought and expanded in 1921 by former mayor of Bachiniva Pablo Baray. He was a hated caudillo in Chihuahua who was desposed by the revolutionaries and reinvented himself as a real estate agent in El Paso.
