The El Paso Laundry rooftop provided a front row seat to the major battle of the Madero Revolution. It is the only El Paso building which still has bullet holes on its walls from the Battle of Juárez. U.S. President William Taft and Mexican President Porfirio Díaz met in front of the El Paso Laundry on October 16, 1909. The presidents received a 21-gun salute under the Santa Fe arches directly in front of the building where El Paso Mayor Joseph Sweeney presented both of them with the keys to the city. A year later, Joseph Sweeney was one of the spectators watching the May 8, 1911 Battle of Juárez from the rooftop.
