Teresita Urrea/H. Flipper Residence

Santa Teresita, who had inspired various revolutions throughout the border, moved here in 1896 after being banished by the government of Porfirio Díaz. About 200 persons a day gathered at her Second Ward adobe home to be healed of their afflictions and listen to her advice. The building also housed both a “Ladies Hospital”and “Aoy Mexican Preparatory School” around the turn of the century. In 1919 and 1920, Henry Flipper—the first African American graduate from Westpoint lived in room 202 E. Third in this building.
